The American Indian Christian Mission has the privilege of ministering to children on two of the largest Indian Reservations in the state. When entering these reservations, it must
be remembered that they are autonomous nations within the borders of the United States. Even though you will not be asked for a passport, you are literally in another country when you are on the
reservations. They have their own laws, their own government and their own police force. AICM works hard to maintain their relationships with the different tribes and their leaders. The mission is recognized as bringing something of value to the children and we are able to minister
in many areas that others are not allowed, so please, respect the culture you are in and remember that you are a representative of not only AICM, but of God as well.
There is a stark contrast between the two reservations. Both are beautiful, but in vastly different ways.
The Navajo Reservation is best described as barren at first glance. Trees are few and small, sand and buttes seem to dominate the landscape, yet there is beauty in the
sparseness and simplicity of the environment.
The White Mountain Apache Rez is almost a complete opposite of the Navajo Reservation. Mountains, forests, wildlife, rivers and streams are the norm for this sportsman's
paradise. |
